Tivat or Podgorica: which airport to choose
Montenegro has two airports — Podgorica (TGD) and Tivat (TIV). Which one you fly into changes how you reach the coast.
In short
- Tivat (TIV): on the coast, best for Budva, Kotor, Herceg Novi
- Podgorica (TGD): inland capital, the north and Lake Skadar
- Tivat → Budva: ~25 min
- Podgorica → Budva: ~50 min
Fly into Tivat for the coast
Tivat is minutes from the Bay of Kotor and well under an hour from Budva. If your trip is the seaside — Budva, Kotor, Herceg Novi — TIV is the obvious pick, and the transfer is short and cheap.
Fly into Podgorica for the capital and the north
Podgorica has more year-round flights and suits the capital, Lake Skadar and the northern mountains. For the coast it is a longer drive, but a fixed-price transfer still makes it painless.
Either way, sort the transfer first
Both airports get busy in summer and taxi queues form fast. Pre-booking means a driver is waiting when you land, at a price you have already agreed.
